Hello everyone!
We hope you all have been studying hard, passing those midterms, and taking care of yourselves! Last meeting, the workshop on Networking and Staying Organized was presented (as requested by your fellow members!) Here's a quick rundown of how to effectively network and maintain organization!
Networking:
Talking to your professors is not as intimidating as you may think! Preparation and an open mind are key to being able to develop a relationship with your professor. Before attending office hours, be sure to read through their curriculum vitae! Show an interest in their research and publications, and conversations will be smooth sailing from there (hopefully)! Be genuine and don't be afraid to ask questions about their own experiences in undergrad or grad school. If talking to professors is too difficult, networking with your TAs may be easier! The vibes may be more casual and friendly, and you may relate to their experiences a little more!
Networking events are another fantastic way for you to succeed in your major/career! Check your emails for any possible networking events. The Career Center also hosts panels for students to interact with professionals who may offer internships or part-time jobs! Career fairs are also another great way to practice your networking skills with businesses and other corporations. Find common interests and be confident in your ability!
Organization:
Planners, agendas, to-do lists, bullet journals, and calendars are some common and very effective ways to stay organized with timelines and schedules. Write down important events or deadlines immediately so that you don't forget! Keep your notes organized in one location (folder, notebook, binder, etc.). Sort your notes in order of either chronological order or by classes! If you write your notes out by hand in class, rewrite them if they're too illegible!
Set dates and times for everything, if possible! Another great tip is to print out all your syllabi and mark down important dates in your agenda in the beginning of the quarter. Remember that staying organized very much relies on disciplining yourself.
We hope these tips will help you all succeed as the quarter progresses!
Good luck on midterms! Stay strong!!!
