Hello everyone! The last workshop presented at the meeting was about Networking and Elevator Pitches.
Elevator Pitches are concise and compelling introductions about yourself, organization, etc. They are used at interviews, networking events, anywhere that requires you to impress the other party (professionally). They also prepare you for situations where you are asked to introduce and talk about yourself. Some key points to remember about elevator pitches are that they should be approximately 30 seconds in length, to be aware of tone and speed, and to practice your pitch to sound confident. If you would like more information on how to compose an elevator pitch, feel free to email us at [email protected]
Networking is vital and helps you get your foot through the door to employment. A key idea to remember about networking is when that a mutually-beneficial relationship should be formed. Use your school, workplace, friends, and family as leverage for finding new opportunities. The Division of Career Pathways at UCI also hosts career fairs for students to discover more about future employers and network. Prepare your elevator pitches and have multiple resumes ready if you plan on attending.
Registration for the next two career fairs are now open!
Lastly, the deadline for dues was last week! If you have not paid membership fees, you may still attend events that do not financially involve XAE (meetings, study/social sessions, etc.). If you would like your points to count towards induction, as well as participate in mentorship, please e-mail us to let us know. A late fee will be established and will correlate with the amount of time passed since the deadline.
Thank you, and good luck with your remaining exams!
