Membership
Membership entails eligibility to attend meeting workshops, accumulate points, socials, special events, participate in the mentorship program, and make use of any of the resources we offer. Although anyone can attend meetings for Chi Alpha Epsilon, full enjoyment and efficacy of the resources will not be available unless the requirements are met.
Common Membership and Induction Questions
What do the meetings and workshops include?
The meetings are our general meetings that will include updates and events. The workshops hosted at our meetings will be hosted by our own board members on any topic that they believe is beneficial to first-generation and/or low income students. Feel free to suggest a topic to discuss at later meetings!
What are study sessions?
Study sessions are events where our members may attend to complete school work while earning points towards their induction. Board members will typically host these sessions at various locations and times throughout the day and week for all of our members! They are typically hosted at Courtyard Study Lounge (CSL), the library, or empty classrooms. You can find when and where study sessions will be hosted on our Events page.
What are some of the socials or on-campus events that are hosted?
These events can include eating at UTC (you can easily get credit towards the point requirement and fundraising requirement by attending our UTC fundraisers). Other events can include working out at the ARC with some board members or attending any other events that board members host.
Does the number of events that I attend matter?
No, they do not. What ultimately matters is how many points/hours you are able to achieve. This is approximately equal to the number of hours that you are committing to the club and to your own success.
When and where are XAE fundraisers?
Our fundraisers are on Ring Road during a weekday from approximately 11:00AM to 3:00PM, though members can also help set up or clean up before or after the fundraiser. The amount of fundraisers may vary per quarter. Once or twice a quarter, we will also have a fundraiser at UTC, in which we collaborate with one of the restaurants to receive a percentage of their profits from flyers.
What if I don't have a 3.0 GPA yet?
We are aware that raising your GPA to a 3.0 may be difficult if it is currently below a 3.0. However, a 3.0 cumulative GPA for at least two consecutive quarters is required. If we believe you are close enough to the GPA requirement, and you have approximately another year left before graduation, we can help you! By becoming a member of Chi Alpha Epsilon, you will be provided with mentorship, personal academic help, workshops, and various other resources to help earn your 3.0 GPA. We want you to become an inducted member of our chapter! Talk to a board member so we can get started.
Do I need to turn in a transcript to verify my grades or GPA?
Nope! We've got that covered.
Is getting 40 points by the end of Winter Quarter doable?
It is absolutely doable -- even if you are a commuter! We have had several members who could not make meetings who still finished their requirements. If you are finding it difficult to complete your hours, please see one of the board members or e-mail us. We will be understanding of such situations.
