"The tassel is worth the hassle."
Chi Alpha Epsilon is a national honor society. Our UC Irvine chapter (Zeta Rho Chapter) serves to honor and support first-generation and/or low-income students who are high-achieving. Recently, we have been welcoming students who are motivated and are seeking support in order to become more well-rounded and successful at UCI and beyond. In order to support our students, we provide workshops, mentorship, and encourage study sessions. To honor our high achieving students, we award our members with a certificate, pin, a cord which will distinguish students at graduation, and more at our annual induction ceremony.
We are not a Greek-affiliated organization. Our chapter and organization is unique because we work with Student Success Initiatives (located in Student Services II) to provide other tools and resources for our students. Student Success Initiatives includes support for transfer students, foster youth, parent students, first generation students, low income students, and more. We are advised by Joanna Hernandez.
The organization is only active in the Fall and Winter quarters. Members must fulfill their requirements to be inducted within these two quarters. Meetings, workshops and any other events will not be hosted in Spring quarter. If potential members cannot attend meetings, they can keep updated with upcoming events and summaries of our workshops on our Announcements page. Induction is the only event that will occur in Spring quarter

Mission Statement
Chi Alpha Epsilon's mission is to recognize the academic achievements of students, promote continued high academic standards, foster increased communication among its members, and honor academic excellence achieved by those students. At the same time, members pledge to continue to excel academically, promote academic excellence in others, and help those who aspire to the same goals.
History
Chi Alpha Epsilon was founded at West Chester University of Pennsylvania in 1989 in response to an increased need to acknowledge the ongoing success of students admitted through non-traditional criteria to universities and colleges. Soon, directors of Student Support Services, McNair Scholars, Educational Opportunity Programs, and developmental programs at many colleges and universities began to create their own chapters. There are over 200 chapters and colonies in the United States. We are the first chapter in the UC System, and are currently the only active one in California working with UC Irvine's Student Success Initiatives (SSI).
