How's it going everyone? This week we learned about resumes, Linked-In and interviews.
First Step
Your resumes should include your name, contact information, education (UCI!!) and experience/extracurriculars (HINT: XAE!!). Other things to think about and add are objectives, work experience, volunteering experience, research experience, leadership, skills, and relevant courses. Each of these should include the names of the organization/company, the city, the dates you've worked there, and short concise descriptions of your tasks beginning with action verbs. Remember, employers spend an average of 6 seconds looking at resumes, so don't make it too crowded or flashy! Besides, you can put the rest of your many involvements on your Linked-In!
Linked-In
85% of employers say that online presences affect their decision-making. Your Linked-In will look a lot like your resume, but don't forget to add pictures and websites, as well as follow organizations you were involved in/are interested in. The more you are present on your Linked-In, the higher your Google Ranking!
Interviews
Prepare for interviews days before your actual interview. Research, come up with a list of typical questions, and practice with friends. The first impression you make starts as soon as you walk through the front door, and ends after you walk out. Make sure to start with a good smile and handshake and end by not slamming the door!
This is only a brief overview of our workshop, so if you'd like more information, feel free to e-mail us at [email protected]!
